Outreach Program
For the past five years, the Nipomo Native Garden Board has been focused on using the grant funds awarded to us from the Unocal settlement to complete major aspects of the garden including completing the planting of the various areas, putting in paths, benches and kiosks, and having a perimeter fence installed. As these projects come to completion, we will be moving forward on an education/outreach program.
We are still in the early stages of planning this program, but some of the ideas we would like to pursue are these:
- Expand our website to include more botanical and horticultural information about the garden and a virtual tour of the garden site.
- Develop a professional-looking brochure and other types of informational materials about the garden.
- Prepare a series of presentations that can be used when speaking to various community and school groups about the garden and the benefits of using native plants in the landscape.
- Develop a docent group to lead tours through the garden and to give presentations about the garden.
- Develop an advertising campaign about the garden to increase membership and support.
- Develop ways in which community members, local businesses, and student groups can become involved in the garden on a regular basis.
As the Nipomo Native Garden develops, we will need the help of many generous and energetic people. If you are interested in becoming involved with the development of our outreach program, or if you have a particular interest in one or more of the specific activities listed above, please contact us by email at participate@nipomonativegarden.org.
